The days got warmer as we drove south, naturally! Thankfully! Travel with an iPhone is a treat. Calling after checking the internet for hotel reservations was a
that sure beat driving from motel to motel trying to get a room of the freeway for the night like we all did years ago. The place we ended up was a mere 2 hours from the destination because we wanted an indoor pool! Evidently there are none in Orlando and no way to tell if pools were heated or not. It was still too cold for outdoor swimming. I connected to the internet in the parking lot of one great place and found out not only the discount price and found a military discount on top of that! Love deep discounts. Yeah! The normally pricey large room with that indoor pool was very nice. Love Bug really wanted to swim!
Dinner was on the water in Saint Augustine. The charming homes lined the tranquil street and the lighthouse across the bay were lovely. Walking along the seawall to the restaurant was when contentment come over me. No schedule or rush, just strolling with my family to dinner. Just about perfect.
The restaurant has been there for decades; build on an old pier site and rebuilt after hurricanes. The hostess did not even ask as she had for those ahead of us where we wanted to sit. We had the love gals with us and of course, they would want to sit next to the window where the seagulls came demanding food. There was a lidded hole in the sill to drop the bread down for the greedy birds. It was fun!
It was a place caught in a time wrap before chains were everywhere. There was a charm about it with the assortment of fishing baskets and paddles hanging from the ceiling down the wall. The “pirate ship” sailed by on its way out to sea full of adventure seekers. Off into the sunset.
The waiter brought 2 baskets of bread chunks for each love gal for the birds without us asking. Definitely this place knew how to serve families (and get a nice tip). It was relaxing for me to not have to ask for this and that during the meal.
On the way out we chatted with a couple and their beautiful dogs who graciously allowed love gals to pet, stroke and love on. That, in their minds, was a perfect end to dinner. We strolled back to our car and drove off to the heated indoor pool that waited for us. A perfectly nice evening in the nicest way.
