American Road Trip I

It was an 18 hour drive from home to Orlando. We stayed one night at a so-so place, clean but in need of a redo!  The best thing about it was it was next to the… wait for it!…

Waffle House!

Love Princess was so excited!  She is our “look for the adventure” kiddo!

A     Waffle       House.

Now nothing against

Waffle House

but we did not want  her to be disappointed. This love gal has eaten in many a foreign restaurant, different cuisines and locales from street food  to a five star restaurant in a five star hotel.  She has an amazing palate. We did not want her to be disappointed with the quintestential American road experience.  Truth be told, her dad and just didn’t get where this fasination came from.  Maybe her older brother who love diners.

She was not.

The waffles were not as crisp as I remembered. The regulars looked like the same regulars in the

Waffle House

near my university decades ago. One defiantly smoked, and gasp! in the toilet too!.  He threw back that door next to where we sat. It banged loud and hard against the table’s edge. If a hand or a finger was draped over the edge, it would be black and blue.  Jim dryly noted “Now we know why none of the locals were sitting here.”  The waitress was a hard-working woman who called the girls Honey.  I do love that about the south.  Everyone is Honey even if they are 20 years younger or older!

We were piggy.  We were touristy and took pictures.

It is Waffle House‘s 55th Annivesary!

Happy Anniversary Waffle House!

Waffle House is the “place happiness lives.”

I don’t know about that but the crew was working

fast and hard and were still smiling.

Next time is it IHOP because she has only been there 2 times she declared!

And by the way when we stopped at McDonald’s for coffee the love gals and I went next door for Icees and KrispyKreme Donuts.  I spotted that red and green logo sign right away.

No wonder Americans have a love affair with road trips!

We are aquiring one ourselves as we take the Love Gals on the road again and again!

And hey, we saw a giant pelican flying low right next to the highway too!

Blessings,

Linda

About chinamom3078

I am a woman who loves Jesus who loved me first. Prone to wander and distraction is common for me as I seek to reflect Him in my daily life. I am wife, mom, and grandma who has lived on 3 continents in 26+ apartments, townhouses, military housing, suburbs and now a 200 plus year old farm house. Preparing and hosting meals for the hundreds who have passsed through our home has been a joy and blessing to our family as we listened and shared over meals, coffee, light nights and Bible studies. A rich life! I have reached the age to feel qualifies to be an ”older woman” (as in Titus) even though I feel far from old and have plenty of room to grow each and everyday. And my joy is to teach Bible studies and help train other women to lead well.
