Memorial Day Fun

Memorial Day

is our nation’s  day set aside to honor and remember the fallen military service members of our nation who have given their lives in wars to preserve and protect our freedoms.

Memorial Day also marks the unofficial beginning of summer.  Pools open and family and friends gather for fun and food.  Kids and moms are counting the days until school is OUT!

Our own table was set in red, white and blue.

It was also a fun day for our  little family who gathered for water fun and good eats. Do our kids ever get too old for water fights!?

Apparently not!

Umbrellas are no match for Love Bug’s direct hit!

Do brothers and sisters ever tire of “getting” each other?? Nahhhh

Little Love

did not like any drops of water on her!  But isn’t she just cute as a little bee in her styling swimsuit? She loved watching the action; just not being part of it.  And no one was going after her…just a little overflow spray.

And yes, we did laugh which did not help her misery and indignation at all.

Time to go in…

The happy wet crew minus one who went in earlier.  One brother was missing the fun.

He was still hurting from his wisdom teeth extraction.

We needed an extra leaf for dinner.  Aren’t the polka dots so cute!  They make us smile.

Candy as a little extra to add to the decorations is always enjoyed.  Yum.  Lindt   Lindor Truffles, Assorted milk, dark and white chocolates with smooth filling  in red, blue and gold. (Wal-Mart) Is your mouth watering?

My mama always said every house needs a set of white dishes! So true.

Bold plates with stars add to the patriotic theme.  (TJ Maxx)

The star garland and votive candles add some sparkle.  (Dollar Store)

Fortunately when I bought the plates at Marshall’s there were also bowls so each place setting had the polka dot touch.

Our tablescape isn’t fancy or elegant! Someday… maybe our table will be as beautiful, elegant and especially creative as those I admire every Thursday. Until that day, I draw inspiration and encouragement from each one.

So the planning and purchasing the fun items for our day was a good time for me.

As usual, the little girls and I enjoyed collaborating on the setting.

My oldest daughter remarked how the special holiday tablescape posts never seem to get done early.

Well, not these days at least.  Our gang graciously has waited to sit  down on several occasions

so pictures can be taken for posting.

The little red votive lanterns will do double duty for more holidays. (Wal-Mart)

So cute and took the place of a floral arrangement for centerpiece decor the day.

About chinamom3078

I am a woman who loves Jesus who loved me first. Prone to wander and distraction is common for me as I seek to reflect Him in my daily life. I am wife, mom, and grandma who has lived on 3 continents in 26+ apartments, townhouses, military housing, suburbs and now a 200 plus year old farm house. Preparing and hosting meals for the hundreds who have passsed through our home has been a joy and blessing to our family as we listened and shared over meals, coffee, light nights and Bible studies. A rich life! I have reached the age to feel qualifies to be an ”older woman” (as in Titus) even though I feel far from old and have plenty of room to grow each and everyday. And my joy is to teach Bible studies and help train other women to lead well.

Love your tablescape. Those polka dot bowls really send me! I am having a giveaway of 12 “Style Sisters” napkin rings. They are the pretty floral rings in red, white, blue, and pink that you see around on TT. If you would like stop by Red Couch Recipes and Click on the pic on my lefthand corner. Love seeing the people shots on this post. Joni

What a fun family gathering! The little one looks so sad! Your table is family friendly – and that is what is important. What a terrific day.
